Bloomingdale's "Check it Out" ad

I posted these minx nails a few weeks ago. It was one of my days at the office, well here is what it was used for...Bloomingdale's Dept store on 59th and Lexington. I opened the New York Times and saw a work of art  LOL...well all most. The top picture at the top ran in the New York Times for the month of October. If you live in New York you know that this is the serious newspaper so some of you may not read it and you may have missed the ads. Since I read the NY Times I thought I share the ad with you. The bottom picture I saw walking down the street one night with my friend and there was the ad again on the side of phone booth. It was shot with a Marc Jacob handbag. Sometimes I don't know what shot the hands will make it in so its just as a surprise to me when I see it.

Texas Hold Em!.. O.P.I. Style..Yaaaaa Hooooooo

Getting ready for Spring 2011 O.P.I. has it all together...Introducing their newest polish called The Texas Collection. They come in a bunch of cremes and sparkles which we know the Texians love, which may be where the inspiration came from. I must say, O.P.I. comes up with good themes for the names of their collections. The names are very catchy and you will recognize them because they are expressions that the good ole gals use in the Mid west. "Dont' mess with O.P.I.", "Austin tatious Turquoise", "Do you think I'm Tex-y", and "Houston we have a Problem" are just a few of the creative names used in this collection. Looks like an O.K. corral to me!  :) Can't wait!  O.P.I. where you at? I need this in my O.P.I. collection asap!

Qtica...Hand Repair Balm is...

 THE BALM/BOMB!!!!!
Qtica (pronounced Q-T- ka) has a hand repair balm for dry chappy hands. It is the Balm!!  (bomb)  get it..LOL
I enjoy this balm because it gives your hands a boost of hydration. They also have a foot balm that my client and friend "Choc" swears by. She purchased some from www.zoya.com  because I used it on her feet and she fell in love. Well, the hand balm is equally as good. Go get balmed and try"Lael" polish by Zoya.(shown in the pic) If you didn't know, Qtica and Zoya are all part of "Art of Beauty"...some of my favorite people. (shout out to Erin and Leo) :)

When should your nail polish and Lips match?

Back before some of our time, matching your lipstick to your nail color was the only thing to do. However, in the 21st Century we no longer up hold that rule, but sometimes its nice to match the two especially if you have a great color, great nails and great lips. This models nail and lip color was not the intended color for this shoot but  the make up artist ( *shout out to Vincent O, from AMNTM) got inspired when he found this color in my polish stash. LOL  He loved it and went for the color lip to match. I can't tell you what color it is because I don't now. LOL... I mixed it. I mixed it from some old colors I had and played around and came up with this. I will tell you more about mixing polish later so continue to visit :) I put it in my kit and what you do you know,  It got picked for a photo, and a good photo at that. :) So if you have second thoughts on matching your nail polish and lip color, still have those second thoughts, (LOL) but it is nice to re visit the past sometimes.

OMG!!!! Look at what I finally got my hands on..."La Mer"...Yipppppeeee!!!

Jennifer Lopez loves "La Mer" Moisturizing Cream and claims to bath in it. I hear that is possible because they do sell this cream by the tubs...you just have to be Jennifer Lopez in order to afford it :)  Well, Im no J. Lo but I was able to get my hands on one of the most luxurious creams on the market. It is said to make your face youthful, smooth and ageless so Im sure it can do the same for hands. So as you know, I love facial creams for hands, so I gave this a try, and it did not dissappoint. I love it!  Nice texture, feels great and my hands love it too... Not to keen on the scent (it smells like perm)  but other than that it now goes in my bag as a massage cream for manicures, at a higher cost of course but it is worth it. Sorry but this will not see any photo shoot jobs, I can't afford it. LOL! So to all my clients get ready for the softest and youngest looking hands among all your friends. "La Mer" will be here to stay for awhile with me. :)

As if O.P.I. didn't have enough star power

Will you be getting these colors? Serena Williams, Justin Beiber and now coming to the stage is Katy Perry. O.P.I. has cornered the celebrity market for making polish lines for just about everyone. Well, not exactly everyone but it looks like they are going after everyone. This new collection is due out Jan 2011 just like Serena's grand slam line. I hope to have them all before they drop in stores. :)  (hint, hint O.P.I.)  The colors will be name after Katy's song and they don't look bad. The names are Teenage Dream, Not like the Movies, Last Friday Night, and The One That Got Away.

Wedding dresses and Laney by Zoya!

 Bridal shows are starting to show the newest styles in wedding dress styles. Just like fashion week it is a big production, hair, make up and of course nails. Zoya was the choice of the St. Pucchi Bridal show and I was the choice to give the manicures. In case you were wondering is that silver polish? Yes it is, it's "Laney" by Zoya which is a perfect choice for a wedding. No longer are the days of the every day so often done wrong french manicure. (I am not a fan of the french manicure in case your wondering)  A bride can wear a silver and have her hands look just as beautiful as her dress on her wonderful day. This silver went perfectly with the collection they were showing. Leonor Greyl was the hair brand that was used for the girls hair.

Guess who these nails belong to.. LaLa Vasquez!!

Remember the Guess who nails post a few days ago? Well here is the answer and one person finally guessed it. It is Lala Vasquez. She is a popular t.v. host who just married Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony. She twit pic her nails and my assistant who has twitter (because I do not have a twitter account or FB) forward this picture to me because it was nail related. This has inspired me to start something new for P.I.P....the guess who nails contest. I will begin to post random nail pics with art of different celeb's and you  can guess who nails they are. Should be a lot fun. Because nails have become so relevant to everyone it should be easy to find the answers , if you do your research :).

MY DAY AT THE OFFICE!!! VERY INTERESTING

On this photo shoot some days ago, was very interesting. Once because,  it was on location which is always fun but it was at a home of a very nice couple whose home was very abstract inside and out. A lot of color, color, color and odd things around the home. It was definitely very specific for their taste, which in turn was the perfect backdrop for the photo shoot. The story was futuristic, edgy, symmetrical, and sharp. This home fit right in...Oh wait, I meant to say the fashion shoot fit right in with the home :)  Great location!! My job of course were the nails. They wanted to do the "moon look" that I have posted previously, but I got inspired by the home, the jewelry and the clothes and suggested a different idea. They loved it and it look something like this...

Instead of a round/moon look I suggested the "v" the opposite way (at the bottom instead of the top of the nail) They looked great with the concept of the shoot. It gave a new spin on an old idea. The color used was  by Nars.

The team did a great job with the entire look for the shoot. Everyone was in a great mood but I think the colorful house may have something to do with it  LOL... check it out..

OMG!! Nail polish gone wild...Justin Beiber Launches Nail Polish Line with Nicole by O.P.I. for Walmart??

So let me get this straight, O.P.I. is on the star/celebrity wagon. They are teaming up with heart throb teen sensation with a polish line? HUH? First Serena Williams and now Justin Beiber. Now, I must say I have a blank stare with a side eye included with the choice of celebrity... I mean what does he have to do with nail polish? I think his hair speaks bigger volume,  but as a business major and now owner, I get it. At the end of the day it's all about dollars and sense (another pun intended) and this makes perfectly good sense. The fans will go crazy just because it bares Justin Beiber's name. The polishes will be named after his songs and I'm sure every young and old girl will be out to get them. What better place to sell them...Walmart. Can you say "ching ching" $$$$$$$$   I can't hate the player on this one but the game is definitely one I want to play. Congrats Justin!!! Soooooo... who is next? Miley Cyrus, Willow Smith or Elmo? I mean why not Justin Beiber did.  What do you think?

Essie...Winter Collection hits stores in November

Here they are the new winter collection by Essie. They are on the way to me and I can't wait to share them with you. They look a little like their fall collection but with a little more muted colors with the exception of the green, "Going Incognito". Hot cocoa and Luxedo look like they will be my favorite of the bunch :)  How about you? What do you think? Is it different enough to be part of a different collection? Share you thoughts. Essie Little Brown Dress

Little Brown Dress by Essie and little brown butterflies. :) Great color year round, summer,spring, winter and fall and for all skin tones. A universal brown polish. You did good Essie. :)

One of those things Under the Sun....I love shoes!!!!! ...and polish...they have so much in common.

My profile states my love for shoes. I love stiletto's for the fact that they make your legs look great and a few more reason, but this season I'm all about the oxford/spectator/lace up shoe and this one does not disappoint. Marc Jacobs is a genius. A little glitter does the sole good. :)  (pun intended) ...and you thought gold glitter was only for polish.

Fashion just comes back around full circle. I had a pair these years ago, time to up grade...and so does nail polish, I still have this one. :)

Beauty Day...New Product Pick- "B'CAUSE IT'S MIMI"

Beauty Products are every where and lately many more are being made naturally. A friend of mine Michelle Mitchum has started her own beauty product company called "B'CAUSE IT's MIMI". Paper or Plastic...Metal or wood.

Did you know that in some states metal cuticle pushers are not allowed? Well if you didn't know now you do. Some states require manicurist to use orangewood sticks to push back cuticles instead of the metal pushers. Now the reality of that is,  is that most do not follow this rule.  A metal pusher does get the job done a lot faster and more accurate. If you do use a metal pusher make sure that the edge that you use has a curved or scoop edge to help protect your nail plate from being scratch or damaged. (hench why they are not allowed in certain states).  The orangewood stick does not have a curved edge therefore you should wrap the edge in cotton to allow for a softer use and prevent scratching the surface of your nail plate. Both can be damaging if not use properly or aggressively. Either one your manicurist should use with care and very carefully. You can check with your state dept to find out which too is allowed in your state. Until then make sure your manicurist is taking care of your hands properly when using a metal pusher or an orangewood stick.

OWWWW!!!!!!  this is what I have been waiting for. My favorite, favorite R&B artist sunglasses have hit the stores and "I'm so excited, I just can't hide it" (Pointer Sisters) LOL. I absolutely love the shades no one wears them better than MJB herself. She has made hiding behind your glasses stylish and sexy. The prices range between $165-$200. Shop Nordstroms, I can't wait to have them on my face with nails to match, how beautiful they are. A little bias you might say but oh well what can I say I love me some Mary J Blige!!! Zoya has a polish named after her and she likes the color.
 Its spelled with an extra R, "Marry" but it is named after her.

Paraffin Treatment for the hands...a must have!

What a great way to give your hands a lift. Paraffin not only makes your hands soft but it also helps with arthritis and carpal tunnel. If you can, I would suggest doing it once a week depending on your ailment. Paraffin is a wax that comes in a block form. Once heated the wax melts and becomes hot. This is a lavender mix with a small amount of cinnamon which turns it this pretty deep purple color. You sink your hands into the paraffin and the paraffin hardens onto your hands. In this case my finger. You place a plastic bag (large sandwich bag) over you hands, twist it to close, and let it sit for approximately 8 to 10 minutes. Once your patience has worn thin LOL, roll the paraffin off in the bag to avoid a mess. You can massage your hands and feel how soft and moisturize they become. The pain you may have will not completely disappear, but it will help in making them fell better. Shown here are pictures of the machine and the paraffin melted. You can buy a paraffin machine for your home and use it at your own leisure. This one happens to belong to one of my clients, so I put my finger in it to show you what it looks like. :)

P.I.P. Nail Art

I know its a little dark but I wanted to show you free hand nail art, done by yours truly. Yes, I know how to do them, just don't do them often. This was for my friends mom on her 60th bday. We call her "Ma E" and she loves her designs. LOL  Happy Birthday Ma E. So see, designs can be worn on short nails too. :)

American Apparel nail colors and Minx...perfect combination

American Apparel "Peacock" green seen here on Tkatina with plaid minx nails. Lovely!  She sent me a bbm message that said "she loves her nails" ;)  They are very pretty...BTW, another natural nail wearer. Nails look great. Yours can too, manicures by S. and your nails can also look like Tkatina's.
